selection of vegan beers.

Near
the Pier Head Building in Cardiff Bay.
Our
Comments:
Kemis state on their website that the menu will suit
vegan palates. The suitable options include freshly made
baguettes with vegan fillings, a wide range of salads,
jacket potatoes and falafel. During the winter they also
serve soups, some of which are vegan.

Our Comments: Typical up market Bay experience. Advise
them you are vegan. They offer mock meat, tofu and vegetable
dishes. The food is fresh and tasty. The portions are
decently sized.
Our
Comments: The Island Buffet includes vegan
options.Starters
include freshly prepared salads, hummus & pitta bread
and a selection of savoury snacks. Warm starters include
homemade samosas, spring rolls, poppadoms, onion bhajees
and chips. The dinner buffet has a dedicated vegetarian
corner, the Chaat counter with rice dishes and vegetable
and pulse curries. A stir fry noodle bar and dosa (South
Indian pancake) counter are live cooking stations which
serve vegan options. Desserts include fruit and gelatine
free jelly. The menu is rotational and subject to change.
It is recommended on arrival you take a Spice Route tour
of the Island so you will be guided through all the vegan
choices available on the day.
Our Comments: The only one of a U.K. wide chain in Wales. A
lot of the menu can easily be adapted for vegans as all of
the dishes are made with fresh ingredients. The pizza dough
is suitable for vegans, so for a main course you can have
pizza without cheese or pasta dishes.
Alert
the staff you are vegan when ordering, as in many dishes
they will need to leave out certain ingredients to ensure
they are suitable.
Our
Comments:
Nationwide Asian noodle bar chain with only two
restaurants in Wales, both in the capital. Their website
has a dietary requirements section which includes vegan.
This explains which dishes are vegan or can be modified
to be
suitable and informs you to speak to your server and
tell them you are vegan before ordering.
The suitable sides are Raw Salad and Miso Soup &
Japanese Style Pickles.
The vegan mains are the ramen, Saien Soba, the noodle
dishes, Yasai Yaki Soba (no egg), Yasai Chilli Men &
Yasai Itame and the rice dish Yasai Cha Han (no egg).
Take out is available. There is also a restaurant in
Central Cardiff.
Pizza bases contain
milk & egg, however it is possible to make up a special vegan friendly
batch of pizza dough on request. There are other homemade items that can
be modified to suit vegans.
Pizza bases (inc.
gluten free) & pizza sauce are vegan so pizza without cheese are
suitable. Some pasta types and other ingredients are vegan, so dishes
can be adapted. The vegan ingredients are listed on the website. Fries
are vegan.
Vegan dishes are
insalata mista/verde, bruschetta Napoli, pane fresco, pane con aglio,
spaghetti pomodoro and penne arrabbiata (order without Parmesan). The
pizza bases are not suitable. Tell them you are vegan when ordering.
Vegan food choices are
jacket potatoes or soup. All hot drinks can be made with soya milk but
hot chocolate & chocolate syrup for mochas not suitable. Also have
a range of freshly made vegan smoothies.

Vegan homemade soup
made from vegetables and stock with no meat/dairy. Usually have
houmous and antipasto items available as a sandwich or a plate with
freshly baked breads.
Can cater for vegans
without notice as most dishes can be reconfigured pretty easily. If
you get in touch beforehand you can tell them what sort of dish you
would like.
Isn't much suitable on
menu but can accommodate vegans. Advisable to inform them in advance
so chef can come up with a vegan option.

Avoid. The staff told
some customers the sorbet was egg free. Their son had an egg allergy
and reacted to it. There were no ingredients on the packaging so the
staff had guessed (wrongly).

Garcon, Unit U9,
Mermaid Quay
This French restaurant
will adapt their extremely limited number of vegetarian dishes to
vegan. Sadly it is one of those places that still feel it is
acceptable to serve foie gras. Don't imagine anyone reading this will
want to go there.
