Example of what they
might serve to vegans is Roasted butternut squash filled with
Mediterranean vegetables with a tomato coulis. Best to give advance
notice.
Cater for vegans and
will have different options even if they are not stated on the menu.
Booking advisable for restaurant but no bookings taken for bar.
Our
Comments:
Vegetarian cuisine served on a stall at Aberystwyth
Farmers' Market. There are vegan options including
Spinach & chestnut and Smoked chilli pies plus other
offerings. Good quality food.
Our Comments:
Serve labelled vegan rolls filled with
hummus or vegetable pate and salad. Soya milk drinks,
including labelled vegan hot chocolate, are available.
Sometimes there is vegan cake.
Location: On the University campus, next to
the Union building.
Our
Comments: Organic, mostly vegetarian food shop with a restaurant serving lunches between noon and 3.30pm. The veggie burgers are vegan and they always have two vegan
specials. There are also breakfast items, salads, vegan cake, custard and cream. Soya milk drinks are available. The best place in Aber for vegans.

Our
Comments:
The menu for
this Indian restaurant offers a ‘Vegetarian Haven’ section
and a mixed vegetable option for all their standard dishes.
Usually it is obvious from the description which dishes are
vegan and the staff are friendly,
helpful and understand veganism. Just ask if you need
clarification. The food is of good quality.
They can prepare a suitable onion fried rice but the garlic
fried rice is not vegan. The suitable breads are chapati and
Tandoori roti.
Our
Comments: The
hummus and roasted vegetable fillings for baguettes,
sandwiches and rolls are vegan. A fair few of the salad
options are suitable too. The staff are knowledgeable,
friendly and helpful.
Our
Comments: Nice
cosy little restaurant. The garlic mushrooms starter and
vegetable chilli main course are vegan. Roast potatoes are
cooked in animal fat.
Our
Comments: Inform
them you are vegan and they are helpful. There are tofu
and vegetable dishes you can have. They can provide a
vegan rice noodle dish.

Alinada, Bread and Olives. Explain to them you are vegan
and they are very helpful.
Location:

Our
Comments:
There are some pasta dishes that can be made vegan on
request. The pizza bases are vegan, so you can have pizza
without cheese. If you take in your own vegan ‘cheese’ they
will prepare you a very nice pizza with it. Redwood super
melting Cheezly is best for this.

Our
Comments: If
you inform them you are vegan there are some suitable tofu
dishes including sweet & sour and black bean sauce.
Specify no egg or shrimp/fish paste or sauce. They can do
vegan rice noodles and the vegetable spring rolls are
suitable.
Our
Comments: The
vegetarian breakfast, including Linda McCartney
sausages, hash browns, baked beans and toast (without
butter) can be vegan if you ask for no egg. They will
replace the egg with another item and can offer tomatoes
as well. The staff are very good on the vegan thing.
The vegetarian chilli is not suitable as it contains
Quorn mince.
Our
Comments: The suitable hot meze are gigantes and
falafel. From the main courses you can have yemista (ask
for no garlic yogurt), briam and gigantes. The vegetarian
pasta might be alright if cooked with olive oil rather
than butter. All the salads are ok but request no feta
cheese in the Greek salad and no boiled egg in the potato
salad. The other options are beetroot, green and tomato
& onion salads. Of the side orders olives, chips &
roast potatoes are vegan but not rice because it contains
butter. There are no suitable desserts. The bread served with the dips is not vegan. It is brushed with egg and there is no alternative bread. Don’t order the dip starters, as you can’t have the bread.
They
seem to understand the vegan diet but probably still best
to tell them you are vegan. If you see anything on the
menu you think could be altered to vegan, the chef will
adapt dishes. Take out and home delivery services are available.
Our
Comments: Ask
for your food to be prepared vegan, they will understand
what you are on about. Suitable dishes when our
researchers visited were spinach & vegetable soup,
cashew & kidney bean burger and sesame seed sauté
potatoes. The food is of high quality.
Our Comments: They cater for vegans. Tell them you are
vegan when ordering. They have a minimum charge of
£9.95 for takeaway orders. They have another
restaurant in Newtown, Powys.
Location: Next to the train
station in Aberystwyth.

Our
Comments:
There are usually a few things on the tapas menu that
are suitable for vegans or can be adapted. If you intend
to have an evening meal it is best to tell them you are
vegan when you book so they can make sure there are
suitable
options.
There is another branch in Narberth, Pembrokeshire.
Location:
At the bottom of Pier Street. From the
Clocktower head down towards the sea and they are on
the right after Galloway's bookshop.
Our
Comments: Cafe
on top of Constitution Hill, reached by cliff railway or
on foot. The summit offers the largest camera obscura in
the world and a Frisbee golf course. For vegans the cafe
can provide chips, beans, decent salads and soya milk
drinks. Vegan catering, with many more options, is
available for booked evening events. The staff are knowledgeable
about veganism. Alcoholic drinks also served.
Our
Comments:
Several
vegetarian and vegan options including Veggie burger,
Smoked chilli, Vegetarian curry and Vegan salad. They
are also happy to cobble together ingredients from other
items on the menu to make up a vegan meal or snack at
the customer's request. Soya milk drinks available.
Our
Comments:
Sometimes the soup is vegan. They can provide a vegan
breakfast of tomatoes, mushrooms, beans and a sausage,
but you need to be clear about vegan requirements and
specify no egg or butter.
Our
Comments: Situated in a wholefood shop. The soups are
always vegan, as are many of the main meals. They also serve
salads, potato wedges, sandwiches, rolls and soya milk
drinks. Vegan chocolate torte is available.
Our
Comments: They can adapt a number of dishes to be vegan,
including bruschetta and vegetarian tapas for starters
and aglia e olio and mushroom risotto for mains.
For dessert they can provide fresh strawberries with
soya ice cream.
Location:
Please see the map links for directions.
Cawl is vegan, without
cheese and the chips cooked in vegetable oil but need to check if
cooked separately. Pizza bases are bought in and the spaghetti is dry,
so probably ok, but both need checking. Some salads, baguettes and
sandwiches can be made vegan. Pesto is not vegan.
Our
Comments: The
menu changes regularly and offers at least one
vegetarian choice, but it not always vegan. However the
chef is very flexible and as all food is freshly
prepared in the pub's kitchen, he can adapt dishes so
that they are suitable. For example they recently served
a vegan customer with the following Sunday lunch:
Starter: Beetroot, Walnut & Apple Salad
Main: Shitake Mushroom, Roast Pumpkin & Jerusalem
Artichoke Pie with 3 Root Mash (no butter)
Dessert: Winter Berry Compote with Raspberry Sorbet
On the set Christmas menu, which starts on December 1st,
there is a vegan starter of Parsnip & Nutmeg Soup with
Apple Crisps and a vegan main of Chestnut, Mushroom &
Cranberry Terrine. As an alternative dessert they are
offering Poached Clementines with Lemon Sorbet.
The soup is almost always vegan as the chef uses olive
oil rather than butter and the same is true of their
bread. The chips are made purely from potatoes and fried
in vegetable oil in fryers which are used exclusively
for chips.

vegan options: Roast pepper stuffed with Mediterranean
vegetables served with rice or salad, Roasted
Mediterranean filled bread (without goat's cheese) with
salad, Mixed olives & bread and Fresh fruit salad. The
