Our
Comments: All
the products are freshly cooked to order, they have
catered for vegans in the past and have choices of
salads, soups and stir fries which are suitable. If
there is something in particular you would like their
chefs to prepare they are glad to do this. Ask on
booking.
Location:
Take
the old stone bridge into Caerleon. Turn left opposite
the Roman Legion Museum into Broadway. Enter the Priory
grounds through the archway on the left.
The soup (if not
containing cream) and bread & olives starters are suitable. Can
also do things like bean salads and can usually come up with something
to suit vegans.
Our
Comments: Vegetarian café in Newport
centre with plenty of labelled vegan options including Soup,
Burgers (mushroom, chilli or vegetable), Wraps or Pittas
(hummus, chilli or roasted vegetable), Specials and Cake.
They also serve soya latte, cappuccino and mocha coffees.
Location:
Up
the hill from the Jobcentre in Newport City Centre.
Our
Comments: Tell
them you are vegan. You can expect dishes such as Soup,
Vegetable stir-fry noodles or risotto. If you give prior
notice they will be able to offer a wider choice.
Location:
Just off George Street, between the Kingsway and
Usk Way.
Our
Comments: Serve
all you can eat buffets with Chinese, Thai, Mexican,
Italian, Indian and other types of food. Some of the staff
are very helpful on the vegan thing.

Our Comments: Cafe
at a theatre and arts centre. The menu uses natural products
that are locally sourced and organic where possible. They
can cater for vegans and this is stated on the centre's
website.
They
provide sandwiches, baguettes, jacket potatoes, salads,
soups, lunches and pre-theatre meals. Licensed to sell
drinks.
Location: On
the ground floor of the Riverside building.
They can adapt their
gluten free menu but recommend people advise they are vegan on booking.
Stock rice milk to use in dishes, which is good but also serve foie gras,
which is bad.

Places To Avoid
Juboraj, 84 Commercial Street
Group of
Bangladeshi/Indian restaurants not interested in catering for vegans.
When visited by our researchers they have not performed well and a
chicken bone was discovered in a 'vegan' meal at the Rhiwbina, Cardiff
branch.

Will cater for vegans,
advance notice probably necessary. State on their section of the
Celtic Manor website they are happy to cater for dietary requirements
on request.
Our
Comments: Most
staff are clued up about veganism. Window through to kitchen
so you can watch your meal being prepared. Staff will alter
veggie set meal to make it vegan on request.
Our
Comments: The Veggie-World section of the
menu has 25 dishes including a good selection of
veggie beef, chicken and pork and beancurd options.
There are also other suitable dishes including veggie
chicken curry and veggie chicken fried rice. We are unsure
if the satay sauce is suitable for vegans. There
is a sit in only vegetarian set dinner for two people or
more at £8.50 per person. Explain that you are vegan and
don't eat egg as usual in Chinese restaurants. Home
delivery available within a 2 mile radius with a £1
charge. On a note of caution. Some local vegans ordered
takeaway food here recently including vegetarian beef
and pork, by name and number (veggie dishes are prefixed
with a ‘V’ so there should have been no confusion). They
were given real meat. When they complained the place was
unrepentant. Eventually they were offered replacements
but not for their rice dish. This is the first time we
have heard of this happening at Oriental Garden but
perhaps it is wise to be a bit careful here.
